This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, how we protect it, and your rights regarding your data. This policy applies to all users of the Verna mobile application and the verna.garden website.
Account Information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and password. Passwords are hashed and stored securely using Supabase Auth; we never have access to your plaintext password.
Location Data. During onboarding, you provide your garden's location through a city or address search. We use this to determine your hardiness zone, seasonal climate boundaries, and local climate profile. We store your approximate location coordinates and the climate profile derived from them. We do not track your real-time location, collect GPS data in the background, or access your device's location services.
Garden and Planting Data. Everything you add to Verna — including your gardens, plantings, task completions, watering logs, and harvest records — is stored on our servers to power your personalized schedule and recommendations.
Device and Usage Information. We automatically collect device information (device model, operating system version, app version, anonymous device identifiers) and usage data (screens visited, features used, session frequency) through the Firebase Analytics SDK. We also collect crash reports and diagnostic data through the Firebase Crashlytics SDK. This data is collected automatically by these SDKs and may include identifiers that constitute "personal information" under certain privacy laws, even though we do not use it to identify you personally. We do not link this data to your email address or account profile, and we use it solely to understand how the app is used and to fix bugs.
Subscription Information. If you subscribe to Verna, your payment is processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We do not collect or store your payment method, card number, or billing address. We receive a record of your subscription status (active, expired, or cancelled) through RevenueCat, our subscription management service.
Information We Do Not Collect. We do not collect your phone number, contacts, photos, camera data, microphone data, precise real-time GPS location, health data, financial information, or browsing history.
Website Visitors. If you visit verna.garden, our hosting and CDN providers (Netlify and Cloudflare) automatically collect standard server access logs, which include your IP address, browser type, and pages visited. We do not use third-party analytics or tracking cookies on the website.

We do not share your data with any parties beyond those listed above, except in the following circumstances:

Active accounts. We retain your data for as long as your account is active.
Account deletion. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time using the account deletion option within the App. You may also request deletion through our web-based deletion page at verna.garden/delete-account, or by emailing privacy@verna.garden.
What deletion removes. Account deletion permanently removes your account credentials, garden data, planting records, task history, watering and harvest logs, and all associated activity from our servers.
Timing. In-app and web-based deletion requests are processed within 72 hours. Email-based deletion requests are processed within 30 days.

Verna is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@verna.garden.
Users between the ages of 13 and 17 may use Verna where permitted by applicable law, and with the consent of a parent or guardian if required by the laws of their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect more information from minor users than is necessary to provide the App's features, and we do not use data from minor users for advertising or marketing purposes.
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), hashed password storage, row-level security policies on our database ensuring users can only access their own data, and secure authentication through Supabase Auth. While we take reasonable precautions, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Verna is operated from the United States. If you are accessing Verna from outside the United States, including from Canada, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States and potentially other countries where our third-party service providers operate (see Third-Party Services above). These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your jurisdiction. We take reasonable steps to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy regardless of where it is processed.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by email before the changes take effect. If a change requires your consent under applicable law, we will ask for that consent before applying the change to you. If you do not agree with an updated policy, you should stop using the App and delete your account.
